Düzce’nin Konuralp bölgesindeki Prusias Ad Hypium Antik Kenti’nde devam eden kazı çalışmalarında antik tiyatronun sahne binasını yaptıran M. Iulius Proklos’a ait olduğu değerlendirilen portre büst bulundu.

Düzce Belediyesinden yapılan açıklamaya göre, tarihi milattan önce 3. yüzyıla kadar giden bölgede, Kültür Varlıkları Müzeler Genel Müdürlüğünün izniyle Konuralp Müze Müdürlüğü başkanlığında, belediyenin destekleriyle başlatılan arkeolojik çalışmalar 2019’dan bu yana sürdürülüyor.

Kazı çalışmaları sırasında tiyatronun sahne binasını yaptıran M. Iulius Proklos’a ait olduğu sanılan 1800 yıllık portre büste rastlandı.

Büstün İmparator Hadrian dönemine ait olduğu düşünülüyor

Tiyatronun batı girişlerinin önünde yapılan kazı çalışmalarında bulunan yaklaşık 56 santimetre yüksekliğindeki ve 50 santimetre genişliğindeki portre büst, kıvırcık ve bukleli saç biçimiyle dikkati çekiyor.

Büst, her bir tutamın diğerlerinden farklı olarak kendi içine kıvrılması nedeniyle Antoninler döneminin ayrıntılı stilini yansıtıyor. Ayrıca büst, sakallı ve bıyıklı bir yüzü, omuz kısmında ise kıvrımlı bir kumaş parçası örtüsünü betimliyor.

Büstün, İmparator Hadrian döneminde imparator rahipliği yapmış olan, aynı zamanda tiyatronun sahne binasını yaptıran M. Iulius Proklos’a ait olabileceği düşünülüyor.

During the ongoing excavations in the Ancient City of Prusias Ad Hypium in the Konuralp region of Düzce, a portrait bust thought to belong to M. Iulius Proklos, who had the stage building of the ancient theatre built, was found.

According to a statement from the Düzce Municipality, archaeological studies initiated in the region, which dates back to the 3rd century BC, with the permission of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage Museums and the support of the municipality, have been ongoing since 2019.

A 1800-year-old portrait bust believed to belong to M. Iulius Proklos, who had the theater’s stage building built, was encountered during the excavations.

The bust is thought to date back to the period of Emperor Hadrian
The portrait bust, which is approximately 56 centimeters high and 50 centimeters wide and was found during the excavations in front of the western entrances of the theater, draws attention with its curly and ringlet hairstyle.

1800-year-old bust found in Düzce

The bust reflects the detailed style of the Antonine period, as each strand is curled into itself, unlike the others. In addition, the bust depicts a bearded and mustached face, and a folded piece of fabric covering the shoulder.

It is thought that the bust may belong to M. Iulius Proklos, who served as imperial priest during the reign of Emperor Hadrian and also had the stage building of the theatre built.
